So why even get involved with this exercise? Well as a coffeephile (a person who has a love for all things having to do with java) it is important that I know everyone and everything that has to do with the industry not only nationally but more close to home. You can bet that the big box cafes know all there is to know about the competition in the markets in which they plan to dominate. So it serves that purpose.
The second and more important purpose it to become an ambassador for coffee in the Las Vegas market. Here in the "City of Lights" we are most known for our glitz and camp rather than for our beans and baristas. We have to be more than that in order to attract all of the best in the world when it comes to coffee. If people don't think we are serious about our coffee then all of the new innovations, creators, entrepreneurs and connesures (hope I spelled that right) won't give us the time of day.
In my own mind, I'd like to see Las Vegas become the Seattle of the southwest, the silicone valley of the dessert and the french press capital of the high mountain region. Yes, Las Vegas has such a long way to go when it comes to embracing the green bean. And in the coming weeks you'll start to see my caffein-coated cup of truth traversing to and fro. (Can't forget the fro) across the Las Vegas landscape.
